Our kitchen team have been extremely helpful in ensuring the bagels are stored and cooked correctly so we’d just like to have a massive shout out to those guys; you’re amazing and thank you for all of your hard work in your already busy schedule.

Below is the allergen information for the bagels we have been provided by the National School Breakfast Programme. We hope you find this useful and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Reading Rocks!

6th March 2020Emily McCabe

This week Toner Avenue have been celebrating World Book Day along with schools across the country. This year our theme was ‘Reading Rocks!’. As part of this, children were invited to decorate rocks that represented their favourite books.

4EM had a wonderful selection of Reading Rocks, from old classics like Romeo and Juliet to family favourite Harry Potter. Even Miss McCabe had a go!

Below is a selection of pictures from our Reading Rocks display – can you spot yours?

Well done to our class winning entries, Jack with your Good Dinosaur rock and James with your Greek myth entry!

Wonderful, wacky Waterstones with year 4!

6th March 2020L Tait

Today, year four had the chance to go into Waterstones in Newcastle to exchange our World Book Day tokens for a book!

In the bookstore, we met Jonny, who talked to us and read us some stories.

Jonny was hilarious and he had us all giggling. We especially loved all the voices he used when he was reading. In particular, we loved when he scared us with the pop-out dinosaur! We all jumped out of our skin.

He also showed us how listening to music can enhance reading, he read us some fantastic picture books which had us all hooked in.

We loved this experience and can’t to visit again.

Attendance Shop Success!

28th February 2020J Little

Our first ever attendance shop was a huge success!

We were able to spend our attendance stars that we earned for each full week we were at school!  With 6 whole stars on offer, we had a range of fun and exciting items to choose from; hand puppets, slime, fancy rubbers, bouncy balls, the list was endless!

Some children made the VIP list for 100% attendance last half term, and some even made the VVIP list for 100% attendance since SEPTEMBER!  What an achievement!

We had so much fun going to our attendance shop and we CAN NOT wait to go again!!

We Need Your Help!

14th February 2020arice

Our new attendance mascot has been settling into life at Toner brilliantly! He has been busy in Y6 expanding his vocabulary, learning his times tables & giving the children a warm welcome into the classroom!

However, he is still nameless! The children from across the school have been busy thinking of name options & we have had a very hard time narrowing down the options, please help us decided on the final name by voting in the poll below:

The winning name will be announced during our attendance assembly on Monday 24th February!

Brilliant baking!

13th February 2020Emily McCabe

First, a big well done to all of the Year 4 children who took part in their Level 1 Bikeability training today. The instructors were really impressed!

Secondly, Miss McCabe must give a big personal well done to all of the remaining Year 4 children who stayed indoors with me doing other activities. We took part in a Celtic baking morning where we made some Celtic griddle bread. We decided whether to make a sweet bread or savoury. Most of us made a sweet bread!

At lunchtime, Miss McCabe cooked the bread on an iron pan just like the Celts would have done almost 2000 years ago – or just about!

Then after lunch we had a little taste test picnic – the breads were really nice and we were pleasantly surprised! Have a look at some of our pictures of our day below…

Travelling back in time for the day…

11th February 2020Emily McCabe

Year 4 spent their windy Tuesday travelling back in time to visit Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend to learn more about the Romans and Celts who lived in our area around 2,000 years ago.
We learned how the Celts used wattle and daub to make their primitive roundhouses and had a go ourselves! Whilst it was a nice effect it took ages to weave even a small frame! We couldn’t imagine having to weave together a full house.

The Romans took some inspiration from the Celts by incorporating an alternating pattern called a staggerbond. They overlapped their stones to make stronger, longer-lasting buildings – just like some of the buildings we saw today!

We also looked at Roman weaponry. The Celts didn’t stand a chance with simple spears up against the Romans and their stone-firing catapults! We made our own mini catapults using lollipop sticks and pom poms.

Year 4 were so impressive the whole day and the Segedunum staff even commented on the lovely manners of the children.

Well done Year 4!

Cracking Celtic creations!

10th February 2020Emily McCabe

A BIG thank you to all of our fantastic parents and carers who joined us in Year 4 this morning for our open session where we made Celtic knots.

The children produced some fantastic recreations of Celtic knots and we hope you enjoyed sharing in our learning too.

Below are some photos of our morning for you to look at!

We will keep you updated with more of our Welly Week activities throughout the rest of the week so stay tuned!
