Year 4 EM

Greek salad tasting!

8th December 2020Emily McCabe

Today Year 4EM were design technologists as we embarked on our DT project. This term’s topic was Cooking and Nutrition. In History and Geography, we have learned all about Greece, so of course we had to have a go at making one of the most famous Greek dishes!

The first thing we had to do was research the ingredients of this dish. We found out lots of facts about the origins of the different ingredients and some really interesting things even Miss McCabe and Mrs Carr didn’t know! Did you know, in order to be labelled ‘feta’, the product must be made in Greece?!

After we had researched it, our next step was to design our products. We thought about how we wanted our product to look and taste, and how we would go about making our product.

Once we had done that, we were ready to make our product! We followed our plans closely, but some of us were brave enough to try some new things, such as feta, olives and red onion. Miss McCabe was so impressed…not all of the children were though!

Lots of children found something new that they tasted and liked, so look out for some requests for feta salads for tea!

Enjoy some of our pictures below…

In The Spotlight – Year 4

3rd October 2020J Little

Each week we will be celebrating some fantastic pieces of work from the pupils of Toner Avenue Primary School and this week it is the turn of our Year 4 children.

Our topic question this term is ‘What makes a good civilisation?’. As part of this, we have been exploring Ancient Greece as the ‘ideal’ civilisation. We have created our own Greek myths in English and are about to write newspaper reports about the events in our own myths.

In History, we have looked at different aspects of Greek culture and have most recently learned about democracy. We were shocked to find out only a very small fraction of us would have been allowed to vote in Ancient Greece!

Well done Year 4 for producing some amazing examples of work this week.  Keep up the hard work!

Can you help?

22nd September 2020J Little

Can you help?

As the new year begins, we are making essential changes to our school Nurture Room.  Our ELSA staff have been working tirelessly to create a calming, homely environment to create a safe space for our children.

We are looking for a fish tank (with equipment if possible) to help bring all areas of the space together.  If you are able to help, please contact the office so we can arrange collection/drop off and quarantine time.

We are so excited for you to see our new-look Nurture Room so keep an eye out for a post in the coming weeks with all the fantastic things we have to show.
