Amazing athletics!

7th January 2020Emily McCabe

Year 4 are very lucky this term to have an athletics coach as part of our PE lessons. These will take place on a Tuesday afternoon during our PE slot.

This is in preparation for an upcoming athletics festival with other schools in the area for which we will be putting forward a team.

This is a very exciting opportunity and the children have enjoyed their first lesson today!

Please ensure your child has their full kit (including trainers) in school so that they can take part and benefit from this opportunity.

  • White t shirt
  • Black shorts
  • Trainers/plimsolls
  • Hair bobble for long hair

As a reminder, jewellery is not to be worn in school (this includes earrings) and must be removed before the children come to school.

I hope you enjoy hearing about our fantastic athletics training.

A messy afternoon in Year 4!

16th December 2019Emily McCabe

As part of our science topic looking at human digestion, Year 4 conducted an investigation into food’s journey through the body this afternoon.

To do this, we made a delicious chocolate spread and banana sandwich…

We used knifes to represent our teeth, tearing and ripping food apart. We added some splashes of water to show the job saliva does in helping to break down food in our mouth.

After this, the food went to the stomach (a sandwich bag in our investigation) where we added vinegar (to show the stomach acid). After much contracting of our stomach muscles, the ‘waste’ product was ready and we squeezed it out of the ‘body’. We learned that the waste of the body is called excrement.

Our delicious sandwich did not look so delicious by the end! Take a look below:

Enjoyed the pantomime?…Oh yes we did!

14th November 2019Emily McCabe

An exciting afternoon fell upon the children R-Y6 yesterday as they were treated to a live pantomime performance of Robin Hood from M&M Productions.

It was a lively affair full of laughter, singing, and some questionable dance moves but everyone had a fantastic time…oh yes we did!

Below are some pictures of the performance to share with people at home.

Swimming @ Brinkburn

14th November 2019Emily McCabe

Hello,

Year 4 are really enjoying their swimming lessons and it’s great to see them making so much progress.

If you or your child is interested in swimming lessons, Ken at Brinkburn CIO (where the children currently swim) is happy to take on new students.

This is the Brinkburn website: http://brinkburncio.co.uk/.

I believe students from Toner also recieve a discount for lessons.

Hope this helps those who are interested!

Remembrance Day poetry

11th November 2019Emily McCabe

4EM spent some time today looking at the importance of remembrance in the context of Remembrance Day. We observed a respectful minute’s silence at 11:00 where we thought about the sacrifice many have made for our country.

This afternoon we talked about why we wear poppies during Remembrance and where this tradition originated. We looked at John McCrae’s poem In Flanders Fields.

We then used our knowledge to write our own Remembrance Day acrostic poems. The children came up with beautiful, thoughtful ideas which I am proud to share some of on our class page.

Buzzing about Bumblebee!

8th November 2019Emily McCabe

Today Years 4 and 6 visited Vue Cinema in Gateshead as a special treat to see a screening of the film Bumblebee. The children had a fantastic time in the Imax screen.

We had a fantastic morning and were all blown away by the action-packed extravaganza. We then spent the afternoon writing our own reviews of the film. Here are some highlights:

Archie

“I would recommend this film to children age 8 or over because this movie is sad to watch in some parts and scary in others. My rating would be 4.5/5 for this film.”

Addison

“Bumblebee is a robot from a distant planet and he came to Earth to save all the people. Dylan O’Brien plays Bumblebee and Hailee Steinfeld plays Charlie, a human girl who saves Bumblebee and helps him to survive.”

Luke

“The title of the movie is Bumblebee and it was directed by Travis Knight. Hailee Steinfeld plays the main character in the movie called Charlie, who encounters B127 (or Bumblebee), who is a robot from the planed Cybertron. Cybertron has been taken over by the Decepticons.”

4EM and 4LT waiting for the metro home after an exciting morning.

Well done to all of Year 4 and 6 who were a credit to the school on their trip.

See you all next week!

Cinema trip Friday 8th November

6th November 2019Emily McCabe

Hello,

Years 4 and 6 have been given the opportunity to visit Gateshead Cinema on Friday 8th November 2019 to see the film ‘Bumblebee’ as part of the Into Film Festival. This will be free of charge.

Children will need to be in school for 8:45am promptly as we will be walking to the metro.

The rating for the film is PG therefore we need your written permission to allow your child to attend.

Letters have been sent home tonight (6/11) with your child. Please return the permission slip tomorrow (7/11) to ensure your child is able to attend.

Thank you!

Hello!

25th October 2019H Teacher

It maybe the end of the first half term but for me, it’s the start of something very exciting.

Some of you may have heard stories from your children about a new face in their classroom – me! After the October half term holidays, Year 4 will be split into two Year 4 classes (4LT and 4EM).

I’ve been spending some time in school before the holidays in order to get to know this lovely, brand-new building and the fantastic students and staff it houses. Everyone has been so welcoming and I’m so excited to start properly after half term.

Make sure to visit our class page regularly in order to keep up to date with the exciting activities in our class!

γευστικός! Greek food tasting in year 4!

1st October 2019L Tait

Last Friday, year 4 had the opportunity to taste an array of authentic Greek foods as part of our big topic question “What makes a good civilisation?” where we have been looking at Ancient Greece.

Some were a renowned success:

Down in one!

Thumbs up for Greek cuisine!

Very tasty Greek salad!

and some didn’t go down so well…

Not an olive fan!

Olives were not a hit in 4LT!

Still unsure…

Despite some sour tastes (and faces) we really enjoyed trying Greek olives, halloumi, Greek salad, pitta bread and Greek yogurt.
