Attendance Shop Success!

28th February 2020J Little

Our first ever attendance shop was a huge success!

We were able to spend our attendance stars that we earned for each full week we were at school!  With 6 whole stars on offer, we had a range of fun and exciting items to choose from; hand puppets, slime, fancy rubbers, bouncy balls, the list was endless!

Some children made the VIP list for 100% attendance last half term, and some even made the VVIP list for 100% attendance since SEPTEMBER!  What an achievement!

We had so much fun going to our attendance shop and we CAN NOT wait to go again!!

We Need Your Help!

14th February 2020arice

Our new attendance mascot has been settling into life at Toner brilliantly! He has been busy in Y6 expanding his vocabulary, learning his times tables & giving the children a warm welcome into the classroom!

However, he is still nameless! The children from across the school have been busy thinking of name options & we have had a very hard time narrowing down the options, please help us decided on the final name by voting in the poll below:

https://www.poll-maker.com/poll2745423xDacf4fE9-80

The winning name will be announced during our attendance assembly on Monday 24th February!

Fabulous Questions

5th February 2020r king

Today in Y2RK, we gave Mr King and Miss Edwards a break from marking our work. We worked in small groups to compose some questions from different charts, for a different group to answer. We then marked their work to see if they got them right. We have really enjoyed our work on data handling, and can’t wait to see what topic we’ll be doing next in Maths.

Warburtons Visit Y2

20th December 2019s cox

The fun never stops in Year 2. What a busy, exciting term we’ve had.

On Thursday, not only was it our party, we also had a visit from the lovely Gail from Warburtons. She taught us how they made bread at Warburtons on a large scale and about ‘healthy stuff’.

The children had a fantastic time, as you can see from the photos.

May we take this opportuity to thank all of the Y2 families for their support this term and have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

That History Bloke – Part One

11th December 2019s cox

Year 2 had a brilliant time with Richard ‘That History Bloke’ today!

We learned so much and got to touch and use items from the Victorian Times! (Ask the children to explain what a ‘Gazunda’ is 😂🙈) We learned the names of the important landmarks and places we are visiting tomorrow, we guessed the jobs that people did in the past by investigating their possessions. We even made up a play. We learned lots AND we had fun! Richard was very pleased to hear this!

The children were totally engrossed with the whole session and it was a brilliant day!

The children ended the day chanting “History is fun, history is fun!” and Richard said it was the best Christmas present to hear that.

It made us even more excited for our visit to the Quayside tomorrow, to visit all the places we learned about today and to find out even more.

We can’t think of a better way to round off our learning about ‘Fire; Friend or Foe?’

Learning about the past.

11th December 2019r king

Today in Y2RK, we had ‘That History Bloke’ in to learn about Newcastle and Gateshead during Victorian times. We had a great time dressing-up, holding artefacts, learning about different jobs on the quayside and completing a drama activity about discovering the fire. We can’t wait for tomorrow when we visit the quayside in Newcastle and Gateshead to find out about the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle.

Y2 Investigate

6th December 2019s cox

As part of our big question of ‘Fire; Friend or Foe?’ We have been investigating the best materials to use for fire fighters outfits.

We learned about Charles Macintosh who used wax to prevent water from getting into the fabric. We decided to see if this was true by creating a wax relief painting. We used crayons, which are made from wax, to draw fire shapes and washed it with orange paint.

We were amazed to see that the wax was water resistant. As the paint just wouldn’t stay on that waxy parts. The non waxed parts absorbed the wet paint.

We found that the thicker and harder we pressed with the crayon, the more water resistant it was.
