Today in Y2RK, we eventually got to make our  bread buns. We included lots of original combinations like: chocolate and honey; chocolate, grapes and honey; chocolate, grapes and apples; cheese and chocolate; and chocolate and ginger.

After eating our creations we had to evaluate them. Most bread buns got a 8 to 10 rating.

Important information regarding Great Fire of Gateshead Visit

25th November 2019r king

Dear Parents,

On Thursday 12th December we will be going to the Quayside in Newcastle/Gateshead for our visit to the scene of the Great Fire of Gateshead. We have been allowed to eat our packed lunches in Bessie Surtees House. This is a Grade 1 listed building and they have kindly requested that the drinks the children bring with them are clear, so they don’t stain the interior furnishings.

Therefore could we ask for your child to only bring water for this visit.

Anyone for tennis?

22nd November 2019r king

Today some of the children from Y2 put the tennis skills into action in a Key Stage 1 festival at Temple Park. The children had a fantastic time showing off their skills in a variety of situations. Check out the photo gallery to see if we have any future Wimbledon Tennis Champions.

Phonics!

21st November 2019s cox

Hello everyone,

We have had a couple of parents asking at parents evenings this week how to support their child with phonics. We will be putting on some sessions for you in the Spring Term (as this term is so busy with Christmas being around the corner!) but our phonics scheme has a parents online course that you can access at home. I’ve done it myself to test it and it should help give you a good understanding of how we teach reading at Toner. It takes about an hour to do.

As always, if you need anything please ask and we’ll be happy to help!

Y2 Angry Birds Visit

6th November 2019s cox

Y2 had an awesome time this morning, as they went to see Angry Birds at the cinema.

We had to get to school a little earlier than usual, just so we had time to get the metro…Mr. King made sure we got to the Hebburn metro just in time! Phew! We had compliments from the passengers when Rosie gave up her seat for an older lady. Eden kept the passengers informed by reading out all of the announcements from the screen.

Once we arrived, some children were lucky enough to nab VIP seats! The teachers gave out some sweet treats and we settled in to watch the film. We all really enjoyed it and everyone said it was a great film.

My my favourite character was Bomb.

Harvey

I liked it when the Hatchlings lost the eggs.

Rosie

It was funny

Riley

We got back in n the metro for our journey home and the driver opened his cab door to tell Mr. King that our Y2 classes were the most efficient and organised group that he had ever had on his metro. We walked back to school very tired but incredibly proud!

We have written reviews of the film which we will share soon, everyone also received a free child’s ticket for the cinema tonight on the way home!

Thank you so much to our team of helpers for making sure everyone was safe and everything ran smoothly. Couldn’t have done it without you!

Finally, the children were amazingly well behaved and well mannered the whole time, they were a credit to our school. WELL DONE!

Y2 Team

Welly Week Y2RK

4th November 2019r king

Y2RK went out this morning for Welly Week. We had a great time at Monkton Community Woodland, where we jumped in puddles, squelched in the mud and collected all sorts of items. Oh, we also did some maths, where we consolidated our understanding of number by representing it with leaves, stones and twigs. We came back covered in mud, but at least the weather was dry.

Just a quick reminder that we will be going out to look at seasonal change at Monkton Community Woodland this Monday (4/11/19). Please can you make sure your child brings with them some wellies/old shoes, a warm coat and a change of clothing, in case they get wet.

Y2 Cinema Visit – 6th November children in school for 8.30am

31st October 2019s cox

Just a reminder that we are going to see Angry Birds 2 at Gateshead Vue Cinema on the 6th of November.

We need all permission slips back so the children are able to go.

Also if you’ve not requested a packed lunch from school, please remember to bring one along and remember that the children need to be at school from 8.30am so we can walk to the metro.

What a nice treat for the first week back after the holidays!
