All Stars Cricket 🏏

10th March 2020O Smith

Yesterday, Y3OS took part in a taster session for All Stars Cricket that will be running in Summer 2020. We had a go at showing off our throwing and catching skills – including a tricky “heads, shoulder, knees and toes” challenge! Then we used our bat to control the cricket ball across the floor before hitting it back to our team.

It was a great opportunity for us to try something new and we all had a lot of fun!

If you are interested in signing up for All Stars Cricket (ages 5-8) or Dynamos Cricket (ages 8-11) for Summer 2020, follow this link: https://www.ecb.co.uk/play/all-stars

Waterstones Y3OS

10th March 2020O Smith

Last week, Y3OS went to Waterstones in Newcastle to exchange our World Book Day tokens for a brand new book. We had an amazing time discussing why we enjoy reading and what kind of books we like to read. While we were there, we also discovered how music can affect storytelling and we even heard some “spooky” stories using scary music to create a tense atmosphere.

On our way back to school, we had a bit of time to start reading our new books!

Thank you so much to all of our adult helpers who came with us!

Attendance Shop Success!

28th February 2020J Little

Our first ever attendance shop was a huge success!

We were able to spend our attendance stars that we earned for each full week we were at school!  With 6 whole stars on offer, we had a range of fun and exciting items to choose from; hand puppets, slime, fancy rubbers, bouncy balls, the list was endless!

Some children made the VIP list for 100% attendance last half term, and some even made the VVIP list for 100% attendance since SEPTEMBER!  What an achievement!

We had so much fun going to our attendance shop and we CAN NOT wait to go again!!

We Need Your Help!

14th February 2020arice

Our new attendance mascot has been settling into life at Toner brilliantly! He has been busy in Y6 expanding his vocabulary, learning his times tables & giving the children a warm welcome into the classroom!

However, he is still nameless! The children from across the school have been busy thinking of name options & we have had a very hard time narrowing down the options, please help us decided on the final name by voting in the poll below:

https://www.poll-maker.com/poll2745423xDacf4fE9-80

The winning name will be announced during our attendance assembly on Monday 24th February!

Welly Week!

11th February 2020S Jones

Yesterday, Year 3 went out on their second Welly Week walk of the year. Even though storm Ciara was blowing furiously, we still made the most of learning outdoors and we even got lots of spells of glorious sunshine!

In the woodland, we acted out news reports we had prepared about a Bronze Age discovery. The wind added to the atmosphere and made them even more realistic!

We then began our work on statistics as part of this week’s maths lessons. We drew out bar charts using chalk and used objects to create pictograms showing what we could see around us.

Thank you to our lovely parent helpers who braved the storm to help us to make sure we were all safe!

Stone Age Artists

9th December 2019O Smith

Today, Y3OS studied some of the Stone Age Cave paintings that have been discovered in caves across the world. We thought about why our ancestors might have painted animals on the walls such as those found in the Cave of Altermira in Spain. We considered how the Stone Age people created hand prints such as those found in Cuevas de las Manos in Argentina.

They might have used blood to create the colour red! (Gracie)

They used animals to make clothes, food and weapons so animals have been important to the Stone Age people. (Kenzie)

I’ve drawn a hunter using a bow and arrow! (Amelia)

After choosing some of our favourite paintings and explaining why we liked them, we tried to replicate some Stone Age drawings using charcoal, chalk and pastels. Take a look at some of our masterpieces!

Welly Week 3OS

5th November 2019O Smith

Yesterday, Y3OS went on our Welly Week trip to Monkton Community Woodland. While we were there, we had lots of tasks to complete. We made some 3D shapes using the objects around us, we hunted for right angles using our right angle finders, we collected soil for our science experiment, talked about how we could use the woods to write a setting for our own legend in English and even had time to say hello to the sheep!

We couldn’t leave without jumping in a few puddles and getting a bit muddy…it is Welly Week after all!
