Curriculum

This term in Year 5 we will be studying the Anglo-Saxon and Viking rule of Britain until the Norman conquest in 1066.

In Science we will be covering a topic about Earth and Space.

Homework

Spelling homework is given out every Monday and is due in on a Friday. These spellings are taken from the Year 5 spelling lists from the National Curriculum.

P.E.

Year 5 have P.E. on a Thursday and Friday afternoon, P.E. kits consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts and plimsolls. P.E. kits should be left in school until the half-term holiday when they will be sent home and returned to school on the first day back,

Reading

Your child should have brought home an age appropriate reading book and a library book from the school library. We are off to Hebburn library, on Tuesday 20th September, for the children to choose a book.

Please can you make sure that you read with your child every night and complete their purple reading record book. This needs to be returned to school every day.

Educational Visits

Tuesday 20th September – Hebburn Library

Thursday 20th October – Great North Museum (relating to our Science topic of Space)

I will endeavor to give you as much notice as possible for any further visits.

Helping your child

  • Read with them every night.
  • Complete homework and ensure it is returned to school on time.
  • Develop your child’s times table knowledge.
