Day 1

We rowed our way to Peel Island (with a little help from our green energy motor) to explore.  We were able to climb trees and had lunch in the beautiful surroundings.  Fun fact: this is where the book Swallows and Amazons was based!  We then rowed to the other side of the island and went rock climbing on a cliff face!  We all supported each other brilliantly as some of us found it a little tricky and a lot daunting!  When we returned to the house, we had an impromptu jetty jump as we all know that is a Thurston favourite!

Day 2

Our second full day in Thurston started with a ghyll scramble through Stickle Ghyll.  Even though the water was very cold, some of us had the most amazing time jumping in the deep pools and walking under waterfalls!  We thoroughly enjoyed our trip, helping each other through the trickiest parts.  We then returned for a warm shower and a lunch stop before heading into the woods to try out the blind trail and do some den building.

Day 3

For our mountain day, we headed towards the copper mines and took turns of being the group photographer!  We learned about the history of rock formation and found out how the hills had been eroded during the ice age!  We also stopped for a quick plunge in the mountain streams before heading for lunch.  We learned about how the copper changes colour when it is exposed to the oxygen in the air which helped us in our search for real copper!  After our walk, we headed to the bluebird cafe for a tasty treat of ice cream or hot chocolate and finished our day with another session of that famous Thurston past time!  What a busy but extremely fun week!
