The Konstruction Kids Adventure Begins …

Last Wednesday, the 12th of September, some of the konstruction kids (Lily, Katie, Cory, Alyssa and Mackenzie) walked to the site of the new school. As you know, building sites are dangerous places, so we went prepared: wearing safety hats, special glasses and safe gloves.

We learned that the builders had to dig the road to make it even so they could put down Tarmac and allow heavy equipment to drive onto the site. In preparation, the builders had to use sophisticated equipment to make sure that they didn’t hit the electric wires, because if they did, then the school electricity and that of the surrounding homes may turn off and there would be a power cut.

Massive gates prevent trespassers from entering the premises, whilst CCTV cameras monitor the site. On the site already are the office, the canteen and storage space.

So far, holes have been dug for the foundations and steel bolts the shape of upside down ice–cream cones have been concreted in to support the beams. At the minute, it seems that tons of cement has been transported and laid into the ground. In fact, Katie was surprised there was no signature Toner grass anywhere to be seen!

Next, they will erect the steel frame. They are planning to crane in a viewing platform, in order that children from our school can visit and view the whole area.

The next time we visit, we will inform you how the building is progressing.
