Keep it up guys, this is an amazing start to your Toner Avenue journey!
Our topic this term is the Titanic and we have been creating some amazing, descriptive pieces of writing and some brilliant sketches in art.
We are currently reading Titanic (Survivor) by Stephen Davies which has definitely caught our attention and helped influence our writing this week. We can’t wait to find out more about Jimmy and Omar’s journey on that infamous ship.
Well done Year 6 for producing some wonderful examples of work this week. Keep up the hard work!
As we prepare to say welcome back to all of our children and families there are a few changes to the school day which are summarised here: https://wp.me/P6QlSb-5S9
We now have full access to all of the grounds, except for the sports pitches which will be ready next September. I think you will agree that it all looks fantastic and really finishes off the school. Al of us are looking forward to teaching in a school without a building site next door!
We have three entrances available. Johnston Avenue, Beresford Avenue and the new parent drop off on Beresford Avenue. The drop off will be one way – in the first gate, out of the second gate.
I thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work through the practicalities of getting all of the children and families in and out of the school safely and socially distanced. Children and adults are welcome to wear masks if they feel more comfortable.
The staff and I are really looking forward to seeing you all again.

Today we said goodbye to our wonderful year six class of 2020 (Lockdown Leavers) Miss Feeney, Miss Bainbridge and Mrs McBarron pulled out all of the stops and gave the children a fantastic send off that was befitting of their time here at Toner Avenue. Below are some of the photographs of their final day.

As part of the National School Breakfast Program we taste tested our brand new bagels! They went down an absolute storm as you can see in these pictures! We can’t wait to get the scheme up and running in September. Our second taste test will be Wednesday with the children in our part time bubbles!
Did you know that every child will be able to have a bagel at school in class in September?
Today we were able to take part in the very first Virtual Northumberland and Tyne and Wear Games. We had such a busy time and even virtually met Eddie the Eagle! Can a Friday get any better than that?
Our Year 1 Bubble has been working so hard that we just had to show you these fantastic pieces of writing! We think these are absolutely amazing, don’t you agree?
We have been so impressed by the children who have returned to school since we reopened and we continue to be impressed by all of the lovely things everyone is doing at home. Keep up the hard work guys, you make us all so proud!
“What is Low Mood?
Anyone can get Low Mood. It is the most common psychological problem. It varies from person to person and stressful or difficult things can trigger it or it can seemingly come out of nowhere. We all feel sad from time to time but usually the feeling passes. With Low Mood, these feelings of sadness just seem to go on and on and it’s hard to see a way to feel happy again.”
Today we have received these wonderful documents from IHeartCBT to help support children during this period of uncertainty. These documents can help identify feelings and offers activities to support children who may be struggling with Low Mood. There are 3 sessions to be completed over 4 weeks.
Please find below the letter from the Local Authority regarding opening schools.
During the Coronavirus lockdown, we aim to support parents as well as our students.
We have accessed a very handy booklet that we hope you will find useful during these difficult times. Please remember that the staff at Toner Avenue School are always here to help.
