Year six visited the fire station this week to take part in the RAP activity. RAP stands for Reducing Accidents at Play. As our year six are getting more independent and leaving for high school next year, this workshop helps them with skills to stay safe.

We looked at seven areas of safety:

  • Be safe as the nights and mornings get darker
  • Metro and public transport
  • Pylon and electricity points
  • Gas leaks in the house
  • Coast and sea safety
  • Safety at a disco (don’t take anything from strangers)
  • Open fire in the house (chip pan)

Year six managed to ‘hear’ electricity and understand how important it is to stay away from electrical points. We learnt what to do if we smell gas and who to phone. From the coast guard, we learnt what the different flags mean and how to stay safe at the beach.

We had lots of opportunities to dress up, check out the photographs in the gallery to see some of the activities we completed.

So, stay safe everyone!
