On Monday 10th October our very talented and caring school councillors took their first political steps when visiting the Town Hall in Jarrow. The councillors met the Mayor and Mayoress, sharing a drink and a biscuit. There was even another school there on the tour, Valley View. Both schools really got on well and enjoyed the trip together.
Once we settled in, we went for a tour of the Town Hall and went into the Mayor’s private parlour – it was very fancy! We learnt so much about how politics work and the history of our democracy, including the Jarrow march.
We went into the Town Hall chamber and learnt about what happens and who goes in there. All the councillors got the chance to sit on the Mayor’s chair and even hit the gavel on the desk – order!!
This was a fantastic trip with some fantastic future politicians!
