About Us

Year 5 are published authors!

5th July 2022Jenny Noy

Earlier in the year, Year 5 took part in a writing project with the Southbank Centre in London. Author Alexandra Sheppard started a story about two classmates, Jason and Amira, and it was our job to write chapter one of the novel ‘Mayhem at the Museum’. Other schools wrote the remaining chapters and today was our chance to hear it being read for the first time at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle!

All of the children received their own copy of the book which contained their names in print! We loved hearing from the author and were so proud of Daisy as she took to the stage to read our opening lines. We also took part in a ‘draw a long’ with illustrator Allen Fatimaharan too!

World Book Day Potatoes

8th March 2019s cox

Thank you to all of you for your fabulous spud creations to celebrate World Book Day! It was brilliant to see so many of you getting involved and we had a lot of fun guessing which books the characters came from. Your support makes a huge difference to the children – sharing stories and reading with them is the best way to ensure that they make good progress not just in school, but throughout their lives.

The winners are pictured below (along with all of the other the other tatie masterpieces) and they have each received a brand new book to take home and enjoy. I was able to choose books by some brilliant authors; we had Allan Ahlberg, Anthony Horrowitz Ross Welford books to choose from. Hopefully we’ll have some book reviews from the children to share with you soon.

All of the children have received a sticker and a book token too, please make sure you go and choose one of the world book day £1 books – there’s some brilliant authors in there this year. Or your child can take £1 off from a full priced book they want to buy. Tesco in South Shields have stocked the £1 books – but get in there quickly before they sell out!

The choice of books are in the link below:

Thanks again for all of your efforts and your continued support,

Miss Cox and the Toner Team.

Year 2SC were out yet again for ANOTHER visit!

This morning we went to Temple Park to take part in a tennis festival.

The children took part in a range of activities to help them to learn the skills needed to play tennis.

I would love to go again! I liked the part where we had to hit the squishy ball and I was really good at it.

There’s Gold in Them There Y4 Hills!

By f dobbin22nd February 2018

On Wednesday 21st February, Y4FD went in search of GOLD!

They got their sieves and pans and went to our local river (well, to a bucket full of the contents of a river bed) and searched for anything shiny.

The Y4 ‘River’

It seems that the children were very lucky, as, one after another, each person struck gold.

“I’ve found a nugget!”

Buzzing with excitement, news of the gold rush soon spread through the entire class.

“Where’s that gold?”

It was like the Californian gold rush of 1849.

“I’m rich!”

“I Luuurve gold!”

“What is the exchange rate of gold these days?”

The next day, they weren’t best pleased when I told them it was only ‘Fool’s Gold’ they’d found (iron pyrite) not real gold at all.

“GRRRrrrrrrrrh!”

Today’s lesson – All that glitters is not gold!
